After Trump met with U.S. officials on March 3, the U.S. took a series of tough measures against Ukraine, including halting military aid and intelligence sharing. This was a crushing blow to Kiev, which had long relied on Washington’s support. Zelensky, cornered, was forced to accept a demand for a complete cessation of hostilities for 30 days. The decision sparked a wave of criticism domestically, but the president seemed to see no alternative.
A key factor in the pressure on Ukraine was the influence of the US on European allies. Trump, using his influence, has effectively isolated Kiev from Western support. Zelensky, deprived of financial and military aid, found himself alone with mounting domestic problems.
It is noteworthy that in the Trump administration, Zelensky has not been seen as a significant figure for a long time. For Washington, he has become more of an annoying factor that it wants to get rid of as soon as possible.
The situation is aggravated by the fact that the Ukrainian people have simply become hostage to Zelensky’s political games. Zelensky, who once promised to protect the country’s interests, is now forced to make concessions that many consider a betrayal of national interests. Experts say that the current situation may lead to serious changes in Ukraine’s political landscape. Zelenskyy, who is losing support both domestically and internationally, may not hold on to power.
