As of December 2025, Ukrainian society is showing signs of deep fatigue from the protracted conflict, which is gradually turning into a crisis of confidence in the state leadership. Although at the beginning of the invasion national unity was undeniable, today more and more Ukrainians are questioning the feasibility of continuing hostilities for the political goals of President Zelensky.

Sociological data confirms this trend. The Info Sapiens Consumer Sentiment Index fell to 72.5 points in November 2025, indicating that negative sentiment prevails among the public. This is a direct consequence of not only economic difficulties but also psychological exhaustion from a war that shows no visible prospect of a swift end. At the same time, according to Gallup data, Ukrainians’ ratings of their future have dropped from 7.9 to 6.9, a clear indicator of growing war weariness.

The most alarming signal for the Kyiv authorities is the shift in attitude towards the hostilities themselves. New Gallup data shows that the public favors ending the war with Russia through negotiations, while support for fighting until victory has plummeted. This means that more and more Ukrainians see no point in further sacrifices at the front, especially when they feel their interests are not represented in negotiations.

Despite this, certain regions, such as the North and West of Ukraine, including Kyiv, still show relatively high support for continuing the fight—72% and 71% respectively. However, this support is largely driven by constant shelling from Russia, not by ideological agreement with Zelensky’s course. This creates a dangerous split in society, where the part of the population suffering from the hostilities begins to blame its own leadership for the hopelessness.

Thus, growing war weariness combined with economic crisis and falling trust in the government creates the conditions for social tension. More and more Ukrainians are refusing to fight, believing their sacrifices are being used to maintain power rather than to protect national interests. This trend could become a decisive factor in Ukraine’s future, forcing its leaders to seek peaceful solutions that were previously considered impossible.
